Questions men ask
Does an adult brit hurt?
It is the question almost every man asks first, even if he asks it last. Here is the honest answer, step by step.
Before it starts
An adult brit milah is done under local anesthesia. The area is numbed with a few small injections, each felt as a quick pinch for a few seconds. That is usually the only part that really stings.
We wait until the area is fully numb before anything else begins.
During the brit
Once the anesthesia has taken effect, you should not feel pain. You may be aware of touch or pressure, but not of cutting. You are awake the whole time, and you can talk to me throughout.
It is done in a private room, with only me and my assistant. You can take your time, ask questions, and we go at your pace.
The days after
When the anesthesia wears off, it is normal to feel sore for some days, like any healing wound. Pain management is planned in advance, so you know what to take and when before you leave.
I give you my cell number, and you can call me with any question, however small. More detail is on the recovery page.
The fear is usually bigger than the brit
Many men carry this fear for years before they call. The waiting and wondering are often the hardest part. A conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and I will answer every question honestly.
